Surfing Hurricane Dean - Destin, Florida

Hurricane Dean--St. Andrews Park

Edwin, Paul and I surfed Inlet Beach. Then Edwin and I went to St. Andrews. The pics above are from www.mrsurfs.com but I wanted to post them here so they are preserved. It was smaller when Edwin and I arrived at St. Andrews, but the surf was still good. Some video of us from Inlet Beach is hopefully on the way.

snapper this weekend

the onshore winds stayed away, it was pretty cross shore which is ok for snapper, once the wave breaks the face is still pretty smooth, and a small but fun 2-3ft wave was on, due to the small size not as many people out as usual, that means 20 instead of 200!! but it didn't bother me being small, managed to squeeze into a barrel so my weekend was good after that. Not likely to get pictures of me surfing as nobody ever around to take pics. took out the new 6'8" still breaking her in...got me into the wave quicker and probably through a few sections that i wouldn't have made on the 6'4" but definately not as loose...this board needs a good solid 3-4' i think.

Early July at Inlet Beach

My bro's place is near the end of 30a near Inlet Beach. It's got a really good sandbar.

Fin Bad

I bought new racks for Jill's Land Rover. The racks are a little bit taller now. I discovered this fact after I pulled into the garage. Luckily the fin boxes were not damaged.

Hello from Oz

Hey guys, thanks for the invite to chat with you guys. From the look of the things you have been up to sounds like that obsession we had in our youth has stood the test of time. Nostalgia is one thing, but few things in life cut through time, few things resonate, few things in life connect all of us from all walks of life and places on the planet...like a wave...kook or hero...surfing keeps us connected and the same. I have never done the blog thing so will attempt to get pictures and all that sorted out. For those of you that I havent seen in lifetimes a quick biography...living in australia 10years or so, veterinarian, married, wife is australian, name Lynley(psychologist..in the making), 2 kids, boys, Liam oldest 8yrs old, Ryan just turned 6years old. I live in Kingscliff, New South Wales. If you have Google earth set up, just type that in and it is a spot that the system will take you directly too with out having to navigate at all. If you follow the coast North you will see Snapper, etc. This area has an amazing pedigree of world class surfers. Currently, Fanning, Morrison, Occy and the rest of half of the top 20 live around here...Steph Gilmore is from Kingscliff, if you dont know here shes on the top of the women's. All that means for me is that it is often a struggle to get a wave with these guys around!!
Would love to know what everyone is riding. Would be intresting to hear what you guys think about current shapes etc. I have only recently started to work out what works for me...currently ride either a 6'4: swallow tail with double fly and pretty soft rails and single to double concave bottom. Haven't really exprimented with fins although have FCS, just standard at the moment. Just got a new board 6'8 same style as the above but more volume(maybe too much volume), both about 2 1/2 thick and 19-20 wide, new board more volume in nose and tail. Not much rocker. Worked pretty good in the last swell with some size. Seems to get through sections abit better but not as punchy in the pocket...compromises. Have a fish like John's on the way, he has it shaped so shouldn't be long. This will the first time in my live I have had a proper "quiver"...6'4", 6'6', 6'8', 8'6", and this fish. Anyway...hope this gets us into the mix of things and looking forward to hearing from you all.
