Surfing is a Trip

 

We picked up this boat/bed for Davis down in Mexico Beach. I think we we are going to need some stanchions and lifelines to minimize the man-overboard drills. 

The lineup just got a little more crowded. Congrats to Danny and Heather. Here are the pics.

Here's my stack o' boards. 

Here is the only artwork on the old school fish I have. This is the board I learned to surf on.

I was at the surf expo in January talking to the guys at Kane Garden. I started telling them about this sweet, old school fish I have. But I never new who made it. This was the only marking on the whole board.

When I described this doodle. He looked at me for a sec and then went and told one of the other KG guys the story. He tells me that it is an original Steve Lis fish. Mystery solved. Then he tells me it's worth a lot of money, 3k!

Needless to say this board has been promoted from the garage to inside the house. I was still surfing this board as late as last November. Now it's going over the fireplace. I'll be surfing my new fish and telling this story until you're sick of hearing it :) 

 

Same shot just the bottom of the boards. Notice the fins on the Steve Lis fish are straight with no angle, kant or anything. 

Here's the side-by-side comparison of Lil' Blue with my original Steve Lis Fish. Weird angle I know. The shape is still very similar. The nose on the new one is slightly more pointed, the rails are a much more trimmed, and the tail is thicker.
